Abstract Following explosive cyclogenesis over the Atlantic Ocean on 23 January 2025, Storm Éowyn impacted the British Isles on 24 January as one of the most potent storms in recent years. With evidence of a sting jet in satellite imagery, this historic storm set provisional all‐time wind speed records over Ireland and produced what could be considered to be Northern Ireland’s windiest day since the 1998 Boxing Day storm. Rare red public service weather warnings were issued by the Met Office and Met Éireann, confident signals for this storm being present well in advance aiding the timely issue of warnings.
