Does visceral adipose tissue volume have a stronger association with venous thromboembolism risk than body mass index?
Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) volume
Body mass index (BMI)
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) riskhard clinical
Visceral adipose tissue volume is a stronger predictor of venous thromboembolism risk than traditional body mass index measurements.
These data demonstrate, for the first time, that VAT volume is associated with an increased risk of VTE and, importantly, has a stronger association with VTE risk compared with that of body mass index.
