The study, which is empirical, took a look at mentoring for professional development of librarians in selected (two) colleges of education in Enugu State. Descriptive survey method was adopted for the study. Five research questions were raised and answered. The population of study, which was also the sample, comprised of twentyone librarians in the two colleges. Data were collected using structured questionnaire. Data collected were analysed using mean. Findings from the study revealed that there are seven reasons that inform the need for instituting formal mentoring programme in academic institutions, mentoring is conducted in five different forms or models, there are six methods or ways of achieving effective mentoring, a lot of benefits are derived from mentoring. Finally, the study revealed ten challenges facing mentoring programme. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations were made.
