Abstract: Notes reviews more music titles than any other music journal today; this has been true throughout its history. As a primary forum for critical opinion, the book reviews serve as a barometer of the highs and lows of music scholarship, performance, and industry. So how do the editors facilitate the conversation and distribute the wealth of knowledge equitably? This article attempts to demystify the process of book review editing (hopefully for this editor as well, if demystification is even possible in an ever-changing academic world) and surveys recent trends in books on music from the perspective of Notes reviewers.
