Starplasty release – A simple and effective interim treatment for severe postelectrical burn microstomia

ABSTRACT Opening a closed ostium as a result of postburn scarring presents a daunting task. In case of oral cavity, prime functions of nutrition and speech are hampered, and early restoration without risk of recurrence is important. Neglected cases of perioral burns may present with severe microstomia, for which Starplasty can be used as a simple and effective method of release. It has minimal chances of recurrence without any need for postoperative splintage.
