Purpose: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a persistent inflammatory disease of the sinonasal mucosa that significantly impacts patients’ quality of life. This review discusses the latest literature regarding the epidemiology and diagnostic criteria of CRS, aiming to provide practical insights for clinical use.Current Concepts: CRS is characterized by abnormal symptoms that persist despite at least eight weeks of pharmacological treatment. Its diagnosis is primarily based on clinical symptoms, imaging studies, and endoscopic findings. In this paper, we summarize essential information on the primary diagnostic criteria, classifications, and clinical approaches to CRS for general practitioners. The review highlights the importance of differentiating between CRS with nasal polyps and CRS without nasal polyps, leveraging imaging techniques such as computed tomography, and incorporating biomarkers and endotyping strategies to improve diagnostic accuracy.Discussion and Conclusion: This review aims to promote a deeper understanding of current knowledge regarding the epidemiology of CRS and to encourage the use of diagnostic criteria and classification systems such as CRS endotyping to support improved patient care and treatment outcomes.
