Subject. This article discusses the issues related to the development of luxury medical and wellness tourism in the Russian Federation. Objectives. The article aims to identify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, technological innovations, and changes in consumer behavior on the development of elite medical and health-improving domestic tourism, as well as determine its prospects. Methods. For the study, I used expert interviewing and statistical analysis. Results. The article finds that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the tourism industry, changing consumer behavior and increasing interest in luxury tourism. It also finds that the age of participants does not have a significant impact on their preferences for choosing tourist destinations and types of recreation. According to the results of the survey, Russia does not currently hold a leading position (Top 5) in the ranking of popular destinations for premium-class recreation. Conclusions. Premium medical and wellness tourism has significant potential for the economic development of Russian regions and retaining funds within the country. Investments in the construction of modern accommodation facilities and the development of the corresponding infrastructure will help meet the growing demand for these services.
