The improved pharmacognosy course based on competency approach is considered in this article. This course is divided into three blocks: the first is devoted to the study of medicinal plants grouped by biologically active compounds chemical nature they contain; the second includes issues of ensuring the quality of phytomedicines, in the third block the studied objects are grouped based on the commonality pharmacotherapeutic using. The active forms of training, such as educational research work and a business game, are used. The course is finished in training pharmacy and completed by solving situational problems. The problems to be solved simulate real situations in the practical activities of a pharmacist. As a result, students develop competencies which are necessary for a graduating pharmacist both to conduct examining quality of medicines and to provide advisory assistance to medical workers and patients to medicines chose and use
