This article examines the relevance of developing digital competencies in education. The concept of “digital competencies” is analyzed and their relevance for successful work in various fields of activity is determined. The trends in digitalization of education are considered, key aspects are highlighted, such as increasing inclusiveness, individualization of learning and the use of interdisciplinary approaches. Particular attention is paid to the transition from traditional teaching to mentoring and coordination of students’ scientific research. The work presents various points of view on the necessary digital competencies, including ICT proficiency, development of “soft skills” and the ability to interact across industries. The study is based on the development of digital competencies, understanding their structure and diagnostic methods. An international approach is described that is used for a comprehensive assessment of citizens’ digital competencies, including the DigComp conceptual reference model and the European Framework of Reference for Educators (DigCompEdu). The project “Ready for Digital!” was also considered, which was developed by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation together with the University 2035 and the Consortium for the Development of Competencies in the Field of the Digital Economy. The author examines the structure of digital competencies, highlighting the knowledge, activity and value components and proposes criteria for assessing the levels of development of digital competencies based on international and Russian standards. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the development of digital competencies is a prerequisite for successful adaptation to the conditions of the digital economy. The author comes to the conclusion that the formation of digital competencies contributes to an increase in educational motivation, the development of intellectual activity and the approximation of the educational process to real life.
