The significance of the propaganda use of political mythology, political narratives and destructive media behavior, which pose a threat to the cohesion, unity and stability of society in war conditions, is investigated. On this basis, the conditions for a proper assessment of the ratio of innovative and traditional means of military communication, which serves to make correct political and military decisions, are considered. The need for a professional, rational and critical attitude to the use of propaganda in the system of other means of military-political communication is explained. The importance of an operational approach to propaganda in a democratic society and the development of one's own means of counteraction is revealed. The specifics of control, subordination and integration of propaganda into a broader system of military-political information and influence on the behavior of citizens are shown. The importance of using propaganda to attract public support, "demonize" opponents and support national unity is revealed. The communication specificity of democracies is reflected, in particular in the context of adapting their strategies of military-political communication, which blurs the line between information protection and propaganda. The feasibility of disinformation, which can have serious negative consequences for democratic processes and can also limit freedom of speech, is substantiated.
