ABSTRACT Research examining the role of life cycle assessment (LCA) in sustainable product design (SPD) has experienced substantial growth in recent years. This article employs bibliometric network techniques to analyze this domain based on 1567 Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus documents. The documents were written by 4366 authors from 69 countries over two decades (2003–2023). The findings reveal that the most relevant journals in this field are the Journal of Cleaner Production , International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment , Journal of Industrial Ecology , Sustainability , and Building and Environment . The thematic evolution timeline shows key trends in sustainable design, sustainability assessment, early design stages, building design, and global warming potential. This study provides valuable insights for scholars by offering a comprehensive analysis of LCA and SPD research, highlighting important trends, citation networks, and thematic maps. It establishes a robust framework for advancing sustainability knowledge and practices within the LCA and SPD domains.
