Purpose: This article examines students’ awareness of digital security in electronic banking. The study takes into account the following areas related to the issue: the general awareness of computer system security and the level of cybersecurity threat awareness, particularly in the context of understanding and familiarity with fundamental concepts in the use of electronic banking. In addition, the research assessed the participants’ level of experience with electronic banking. Design/methodology/approach: The survey was conducted in 2023 using the CAWI method and included more than 310 students. An analysis of the results was carried out, followed by a discussion of the findings, and concise conclusions were drawn in relation to the specific areas examined in the study. Findings: The research revealed that respondents are aware of the risks associated with using electronic banking, tend to associate the concept of security primarily with protecting personal data, and express a need for more proactive cybersecurity education efforts from banks and key institutions in the Polish financial sector. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of the study, as it was conducted exclusively within an academic environment. Another limitation is related to the lack of exploration of respondents' attitudes toward the latest advancements in this field. Practical implications: These suggestions may also serve as a valuable resource for practitioners in the financial sector seeking to develop initiatives aimed at enhancing cybersecurity awareness among their clients. Social implications: Recommendations were formulated that may be useful for scholars interested in exploring the recognition of computer security issues in the context of electronic banking. Originality/value: The original contribution of the article lies in presenting the current attitudes of students toward the issue of security in individual banking operations.
