Two recent studies published by The Journal of Experimental Criminology examined how artificial intelligence might impact campus policing efforts. One study, “No man's hand: artificial intelligence does not improve police report writing speed,” looked at how AI impacted writing reports by officers. The second, “Writing at the speed of hype: officers’ post‐experimental perceptions of AI report writing,” examined perceptions from officers of using AI tools to write reports. Together, these studies paint a picture of how police departments are currently trying to utilize AI tools — and whether or not they’re positively impacting policing work.
