null Jeffrey Weeks became involved in History Workshop through the Gay Liberation movement in the early 1970s. Born and brought up the Rhondda Valleys, a mythologised centre of Welsh labour radicalism he read history in London but became increasingly alienated from the traditional left and conventional History. He became a pioneer of a new lesbian and gay history and was increasingly drawn to the History Workshop movement, becoming an editor of HWJ. This personal experience provides the opportunity to reflect on the relationship between History Workshop and the wider radical movements, the nature of democratic collective action and memory.
