The article highlights key aspects of the modern theory of understanding the concept of national security of Ukraine, considering it as a complex, multifaceted phenomenon that requires an integrative scientific approach. The authors analyze the conceptual and categorical apparatus that forms the basis for the development and implementation of effective policy in the field of national security. The study begins with a detailed interpretation of the terms «concept», «nation» and «security». Special attention is paid to the evolution of the understanding of the term «nation», emphasizing the transition from a purely political to an ethnosocial interpretation. This prompts the authors to discuss the correctness of the term «national security» itself in the context of the security of the entire Ukrainian people. The concept of «security» is considered as a state of protection of the vital interests of the individual, society and the state from internal and external threats. The authors emphasize that the development of the Concept of National Security of Ukraine should be based on a broad methodological basis, including anthropological, phenomenological, systemic, activity approaches, as well as the principles of scientificity, historicism, comprehensiveness, objectivity and concreteness. The use of dialectical, hermeneutic, functional, synergistic methods, as well as methods of analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, abstraction, modeling, forecasting and formal-legal allows for a comprehensive study of the subject. In the article, the Concept of National Security of Ukraine is defined as a regulatory or legal act containing officially stated norms, principles and provisions regarding the modern understanding of the needs and interests of the individual, society and the state, as well as mechanisms for overcoming potential and real threats. The model of the future National Security Concept of Ukraine proposed by the authors provides for a clear structure that includes the priorities of national interests, current and predicted threats, the main directions of foreign and domestic political activity, as well as the tasks of reforming the security and defense sector and the necessary resources.
