Abstract This study explored into the design and assembly of a multi-level inverter for motor drive applications, with a specific focus on the control system for an IM (IM) utilised in pumping applications. The control strategy combines Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) for modulation and Indirect Field Oriented Control (IFOC) for precise control. The IM (IM) receives power from a cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (CHBMLI), which is controlled using the Alternate Phase Opposition Disposition (APOD) multi-carrier PWM technique. To assess the system’s performance, a detailed mathematical model of the pump load is developed, and extensive simulations are performed. Additionally, the study verifies the affinity law of the centrifugal pump (CP) by comparing simulation results with theoretical predictions.. The rationale behind selecting a three-stage IM for industrial applications is attributed to its enduring robustness, reliability, and simplicity in construction. This research underscores the persistent quest for precision in controlling these motors, encompassing modulation techniques and advanced closed-loop control strategies.
