Augmented Reality (AR) technology is one of the latest technologies being used today, and it has a lot of potential to be employed in the realm of education. Therefore, it is necessary to determine how this technology is now used in geography teaching. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate both the content of augmented reality technology in secondary school textbooks and the familiarity and proficiency of geography teachers with this technology. This study employs a qualitative methodology that includes library research and online interviews conducted via phone calls and WhatsApp applications. The study sample comprises of eight geography teachers from Setiu district in Terengganu. The study's findings indicate that there is minimal use of augmented reality (AR) technology in the KSSM Geography textbooks from Form 1 to Form 5. A low level of teacher familiarity with augmented reality technologies is also observed (three out of eight respondents know and have seen AR technology). Seven out of eight people are aware of the implementation of augmented reality (AR) technology in the KSSM Geography textbooks, yet there is minimal use of this technology by geography teachers (three out of eight use AR technology). In general, Setiu district geography teachers have shown a low degree of expertise and application of augmented reality technology in the teaching of geography.
