In the United States, the pace of transition to open access (OA) is accelerating. An increasing number of libraries are signing transformative agreements (TA) supporting authors publishing OA, while maintaining access to subscription content. Recently, Springer Nature embarked on research on newly implemented TAs. In this paper, the authors discuss their experience negotiating and implementing TAs or, as they are commonly known, read and publish (RP) agreements. Springer Nature discusses their regional and national implementations of these TAs, and Lyrasis provides an in-depth review of their centrally negotiated RP with Springer Nature serving 121 institutions.
