The high peak power pulsed thulium laser holds significant value for lithotripsy applications. The large energy and high peak power pulsed Tm:YAG laser was studied by simulation and experiment. The results show that the intense relaxation oscillations generate through the whole pulse. The output pulse is composed of many sub-pulses with elevated peak power. The laser system achieves a pulse energy of 345mJ with a pulse duration of 240μs at coolant temperatureof10 °C, repetition rat of 150 Hz , pump pulse width of 500μs and pumping power of 3.0 kW. Further amplification by a 450W continuous-wave LD pump module and obtained the pulse energy of 545mJ. The high-power and high-energy outputs delivered by this system demonstrate its potential for enhancing lithotripsy efficiency.
