This research analyzes the combined implementation of Lean Manufacturing practices and technologies from Industry 4.0. The aim is to assess how the automation and digitization features of Industry 4.0 can optimize the strategic imperatives of Lean, including value addition, waste minimization, and continuous improvement. As a outcome of systematic review, literature published between 2000 and 2024 reveals that there is no doubt that Industry 4.0 equips organizations with precise and large-scale tools to accomplish Lean objectives. Results suggest that this integration enhances operational efficiency, quality, flexibility, and sustainability to a greater extent. Nonetheless, barriers related to data integration and cybersecurity, as well as the need for workforce reskilling present challenges that need to be solved. This study argues that Lean serves as the guide, while Industry 4.0, the toolkit for achieving a smart factory of the future.
