Australia's Royal Commission into the experiences of people with disability (2019) and the review of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (2022) identify that our nation is failing children with disability and their families. This failure includes the health system. Based on a recent consultation with children and families, in this article we argue that providing adequately for children with disability and their families requires shifting focus from individual responsibility to collective responsibility; from family fight to delivery of social and healthcare rights. Structural supports through integrated systems and attitudinal change focused on inclusion are an imperative within and beyond the health system.
