In recent years, society has become increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of our lifestyles. As global warming intensifies and natural disasters become more frequent, it is vital to consider the long-term health of our planet. Within this growing awareness, sustainability in pharmacy has emerged as a crucial and timely topic. The profession is beginning its journey toward environmentally responsible practice, and early initiatives signal a meaningful shift toward reducing waste, energy usage, and greenhouse gas emissions. This edition of the APSJ explores the evolving role of sustainability within pharmacy. We examine how excessive use of medical supplies, paper, plastics, and energy contribute to environmental challenges, and how pharmacists can help mitigate these issues through responsible prescribing, medication use, and waste disposal. Education also plays a pivotal role, by raising awareness among patients and peers, pharmacists can drive change from within.
