Abstract: Is there space for multiplicity in the Trojan Horse? A bilingual reading of Monique Wittig’s self-translated essay from French, “The Point of View: Universal or Particular,” this article teases out elements of the invisible third text created within the space of translation. Whereas the essay was first written as a fore-word to her translation of Barnes’s Spillway , Wittig’s rich practice of translation remains undertheorized. I argue that exploring her bilingual text allows us to introduce into her materialist feminist philosophy the question of multiplicity of languages, and more generally, that of multiplicity of minority points of view. This expansive space invites new readings and translations that can “reactivate” its productivity across languages and historical contexts.
