The solution of problems identified during the operation of casting units is presented, namely, automatic recognition of a thermocouple malfunction in the mixer and determination of the actual length of a cast ingot. For this purpose, the casting unit was considered as an automation object and technological parameters were highlighted. Algorithms for solving the identified problems were proposed and successfully implemented in the TIA Portal environment of the automated control system of a foundry department.
