Abstract

This study investigates what Australian educators need to know and understand about ADHD so students can maximise their learning. Teachers (N = 1,024) participated in an online survey. Results indicate half have an adequate knowledge and understanding of ADHD but under half do not know how to recognise if a student has the condition or how best to support them. Most teachers stated that schools need to do more to support these students. Three quarters of teachers reported they would appreciate more frequent, collaborative opportunities with parents, health professions, and community organisations to improve their knowledge and understanding of ADHD.
