This comprehensive literature review aims to identify the benefits and drawbacks of using AI for students and teachers. AI can serve as a tool for many students if used correctly. A common utilization of AI is through a chatbot, which uses human language to communicate. One of the main ways that students could do this is through a personalized tutor to help teach and answer student questions. Writing and idea generation are other ways that students have used AI, mainly with essays or research. Teachers also use AI to make their teaching more personalized for students. However, teachers also believe that AI could be harmful or detrimental. Since AI is such a powerful tool, students may become over-reliant on it, and in the process reduce their critical thinking skills. AI could also become biased, leading to faulty answers called hallucinations. Many educational companies have already started using AI, such as Khan Academy’s AI Khanmigo, and Byju’s AI suite called Wiz. I recommend students use AI sparingly, as to avoid overreliance. Teachers should also use AI to promote personalization but with the caution of not using it too much.
