The article substantiates the need to analyze the work of the economy before launching state measures to support it, reveals the importance of reliable information and the consequences of ignoring it using historical facts from the period of the USSR as an example. The history of the transition to a new type of planning and stimulation of the economy in the Soviet Union and the mistakes made in this process are considered. It is shown that for more than 30 years since the post-war reconstruction (mid-1950s) only attempts were made to speed up, which ultimately led to irreversible consequences. Since the topic of planning in the economy is becoming increasingly relevant, the Soviet experience is necessary for study in order to minimize the possible negative effects of such practices.
