Part V consists of two divisions: A. Current Statistics -- which summarizes and interprets data regarding the teaching of philosophy during the first semester of the academic year 1963-64, presented in Part I of the present Directory; B. Growth Statistics — which compare the data for 1963-64 with the data for the first semester of the academic year 1961-62, presented in Part I of the 1962-63 DIRECTORY. The data, and the generalizations made from them, should be viewed in light of the fact that the study remains incomplete, due to several factors: (1) More than 325 of the 2274 colleges listed made no responses to our inquiries. (2) Unavailability of the U.S. Educational Directory, Part III, 1963-64 and of the Supplement to its 1962-63 issue, prevented obtaining data on many new colleges. (3) Many colleges and other institutions in which philosophy is taught remain unlisted.
