Abstract A new crab species of the family Xanthidae (Crustacea, Decapoda), Pseudoliomera jingwei , is described based on the specimens from the Ogasawara Islands in the south of Tokyo, Japan, and the Xisha (Paracel) Islands in the South China Sea. This species resembles P. speciosa (Dana, 1852), but differs morphologically in having the carapace with the first two anterolateral teeth blunt while the last two triangular, the anterolateral margin slightly shorter than the posterolateral margin, the carapace dorsal surface with wider and shallower interregional furrows, the carapace central part bearing clusters of long setae, and the slender ambulatory legs. Additionally, P. paraspeciosa (Ward, 1941) is herein regarded as a junior synonym of P. speciosa (Dana, 1852). To date, the genus Pseudoliomera Odhner, 1925 comprises ten valid species.
