The purpose of this dissertation is to thoroughly investigate and present the way teachers think, as regards the motives which urge them to pursue postgraduate studies as well as. The subjects of the research are 12 professional teachers, currently teaching in Secondary schools in the Athens region Athens and in order to collect the data of the empirical research the method of semi-structured interview has been used. The results of the research, conclude that the teachers acknowledge the great importance of postgraduate studies as far as their personal, educational and professional development is concerned, with a view to successfully meeting the diverse demands of their role and the teachers participate in a postgraduate program for various reasons. Nevertheless, most of then share the innate incentives towards learning that result from their genuine interest in the complex nature of the teaching profession
