The aim of the article is to identify the regulations introduced by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), fully effective since January 2024, concerning the use of drones in airspace and their impact on the safety of drone operations. The article outlines regulations designed to harmonize rules across EU member states to ensure safe drone operations in a dynamically evolving technological environment. Key elements of these regulations include the categorization of drone operations into "open," "specific," and "certified" categories, mandatory registration of operators, the implementation of geofencing technology, and remote identification systems. The introduced regulations enhance the safety of drone operations; however, their effective implementation requires overcoming numerous technological, legal, and educational barriers. The deployment of solutions such as the U-Space system and the development of collision avoidance technologies are crucial for the future of drones in Europe. The need for further harmonization of regulations, strengthening international cooperation, and addressing new challenges related to drone autonomy and cybersecurity is emphasized.
