Strategic human resource management is the linking of human resource management with strategic goals and objectives of an organization to achieve better result. This study investigated the role of strategic human resource management on organizational performance. The study adopted ResourceBased Theory as it theoretical framework. Qualitative content analysis was used as methodology. Findings revealed that there is significant gap between strategic objectives and operation capabilities in the management of public sector organizations; that there are challenges of adoption and implementation of SHRM by public sector organizations. The implication of the findings entails that public organizations should align its objectives to SHRM to enhance performance and attain organizational goals. The study recommended that public sector organizations should align their strategic objectives with SHRM to enhance operational capabilities and that public sector organizations should adopt and implement SHRM practices in their activities to achieve viability and growth.
