Revitalizing Indigenous Languages of Northeast India in the Context of Its Literature and Culture

Northeast India is rich in linguistic diversity. However, linguistic diversity of this region is under threat due to urbanization, migration, and the dominance of major languages like Hindi and English, leading to language endangerment and a decline in native speakers. This paper tries to explore the significance of indigenous languages in the context of literature and cultural identity. The paper discusses how indigenous languages encapsulate local customs, beliefs, and histories, serving as vital components of social identity and cultural expression. The paper also highlights how writers from Northeast India incorporates indigenous languages in their literary works to revitalize the languages, to elicit cultural authenticity, to evoke emotional resonance. The paper also points out the challenges faced by the indigenous languages of Northeast India and identifies strategies to be implemented for revitalization through technology, social media, and community involvement, advocating for a comprehensive approach to preserve and promote the linguistic heritage of Northeast India.
