Ageing (Jara) is an inevitable biological process characterized by progressive physiological degeneration. In Ayurveda, it is classified as a Swabhavika Vyadhi (natural condition) but can be delayed and managed effectively through Rasayana Chikitsa—a specialized branch of Ayurveda focused on rejuvenation and promoting longevity. Rasayana therapy not only enhances immunity (Vyadhikshamatva) but also improves physical strength, mental clarity, and quality of life. This paper discusses the conceptual framework of ageing in Ayurveda, types and benefits of Rasayana, classical formulations, and current research supporting its efficacy. The role of Medhya Rasayana (nootropic tonics), Achar Rasayana (behavioral discipline), and Naimittika Rasayana (disease-specific) in combating degenerative changes are emphasized.
