This project focuses on exploring the capabilities of virtual reality (VR) in depicting architectural visualization in conjunction with the use of consumer-accessible electroencephalogram (EEG) biosensor technology. The engagement level between user and environment is closely monitored as VR adds greatly to the overall user experience (UX). Attention to detail is essential to heighten UX and immersion levels, which are closely monitored as the user explores simulated virtual environments. The project was conducted as a collaboration among several designers specializing in architectural drafting and building design, and in VR development for a multidisciplinary approach to the project content. Exploration was essential to the user experience, and this was made accessible using simple controls and a primary focus on scene design in conjunction with architectural visualization. Movement in a virtual space connected the individual with VR technologies and introduced the capabilities found in the creation/manipulation of a digital environment. This project has repurposed the original function of a consumer-accessible EEG device from meditation/mindfulness to monitor brainwave activity from user exploration for research purposes. The results recorded assisted in gaining insight into this emerging technology and have generated pathways for further research through creating a foundational awareness. By the project’s conclusion, a successful prototype was formed and tested by users, providing EEG results for analysis.
