Competition is the driving force of the modern market economy. According to the postulates of economic theory, competition performs regulatory, allocation, innovation and other roles, acting as a key element of the free market system. The article analyzes the concept of competition, its main types in relation to the medical services market. The medical services sector has its own needs and peculiarities, due to the specifics of manufacturing the necessary products. The objectives of the work are to analyze the relationship between the theory of economics and modern practice, to substantiate the undoubted benefits for consumers of the medical field of having a large number of manufacturers and suppliers. To achieve these objectives, methods of analyzing interpretations of economic postulates and expert opinions during the review of scientific and periodical literature were used.
