Hospital waste management is a global challenge that requires efficient solutions to minimize environmental impacts and public health risks. This study aims to analyze the generation of this waste in Brazil and worldwide, identifying challenges and sustainable alternatives for its disposal. The research was conducted through the collection of quantitative data from environmental and health agencies, in addition to the review of innovative management practices. In Brazil, annual production exceeds hundreds of thousands of tons, requiring effective strategies for segregation, treatment, and disposal. In the international scenario, the implementation of technologies such as autoclaving, recycling, and energy recovery has shown potential in reducing environmental impact. It is concluded that the adoption of stricter public policies, investments in infrastructure, and awareness of health professionals are essential for efficient management, promoting sustainability and sanitary safety.
