This study analyzes the evolution of higher education leadership research from 2013 to 2023. Leadership is a crucial strategic issue for managing the challenges faced by higher education institutions in achieving academic excellence and adapting to societal changes. The study conducted a bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database. This study aimed to identify key trends, significant contributors and thematic developments within this field. VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel were utilized to analyze publication patterns, country contributions, prominent journals, authors and common keywords through visualization of bibliometric networks. The results of the analysis show that research in this field has surged. There were 4415 publications written in English. Some key journals were the 'Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management' and 'Studies in Higher Education'. At the same time, major international collaboration came from the USA and the UK. Central themes were leadership, higher education, sustainability and innovation. These findings underline that Leadership in higher Education is key nationally and worldwide, and that multidisciplinary and international research is persistently needed. Therefore, this study derived valuable insights for researchers and practitioners to understand the progress of this field.
