The article is devoted to the study of the rules that ensure the ease of perception of texts at the lexical level, using the example of the German-language media “Nachrichten leicht”. The lexical features of texts in “a plain language” are considered in the context of their communicative effectiveness. The purpose of the work is to identify the main features of the implementation of the rules of the linguistic concept of “plain language” at the lexical level using the example of news articles. Scientific novelty lies in the fact that, as a result of a comparative analysis, the rules for “plain language” (“Einfache Sprache”) for intralingual translation have been summarized for the first time and the specifics of their use at the lexical level in media texts have been identified. The basic principles of “plain language” (“Einfache Sprache”), which ensure the perception of the text as maximally accessible to readers, have been studied. This allows for a more detailed and practical examination of the features of “plain language” in contemporary media discourses. The results showed that when composing news texts in “a plain language”, the authors explained difficult-to-understand words in a special Dictionary tab, separated compound nouns with a hyphen, and used mostly common vocabulary. At the same time, examples of violations of the rules of “plain language” were identified. Thus, the use of abbreviations, synonyms, and terms was most often observed, while their use was undesirable and led to a violation of such fundamental principles of the concept of “plain language” as relevance, accessibility, understandability, and applicability of information to the target audience.
