The article considers the issues of development of cognitive activity of primary school students. The analysis of various approaches to understanding the concept of “cognitive activity” in the context of interrelated concepts of “activity”, “cognitive activity”, “cognitive interest”, “cognitive development” is presented. The analysis of the presented positions allows us to clarify the essence of the process of cognitive activity of schoolchildren in relation to modern primary education. Cognitive activity is considered as a personal quality of the student, manifested in his positive attitude to the content and process of mastering knowledge and methods of cognitive activity. To solve the issue of developing cognitive activity of students, a specialized workbook of local history focus on the subject “World Around Us” is proposed, including tasks and additional information about the native land, which helps to increase the interest and motivation of students in the process of cognition. The structure of the workbook, adapted for different regions of Russia, is considered.
