The article actualizes the issue of training future geography teachers who have the appropriate level of competence, indicating the formation of geographical culture - an integral part of the general culture. In this case, the leading trigger is geographical local history. Education and culture are inextricably linked with each other, they are complementary to each other, and therefore the education system should be considered as a conductor of the cultural potential of society. The Federal State Educational Standard of Basic General Education and the Concept of Development of Geographical Education (hereinafter referred to as the Concept) emphasize the importance of local history in fostering a sense of patriotism, civic duty, deep understanding of national and state specifics, and also contributes to the formation of geographical culture as an integral part of universal culture. However, in the vast majority of educational institutions of the Novosibirsk Region there is no officially adopted subject “Local History”, and, accordingly, a program for the implementation of this direction. Therefore, there was a need to create high-quality courses in local history aimed at acquiring knowledge about one’s locality and forming a geographical picture of the world. The purpose of the study: to substantiate the role of geographical local history as a means of forming geographical culture in future geography teachers. Methodology and research methods. The theoretical and methodological basis for the work was the research of domestic scientists on issues of school local history, the works of A. S. Barkov, Dushina I. V., Nikonova M. A., Safiulin A. Z., Stroev K. F. and others. In addition, the basis was formed by the data of regulatory and legal documents governing the activities of the education sector; the texts of federal state educational standards of basic general and higher education. In the course of the study, the following methods were used: analysis and synthesis of scientific and pedagogical information, generalization, modeling, conceptual and terminological analysis. In conclusion, a conclusion is formulated that in the process of forming a holistic picture of the world, the importance of integrated courses for schoolchildren and students of pedagogical universities increases. The methodological basis of the course of integrated content, ensuring the formation of geographical culture, are local history, system-activity, personality-oriented approaches. The quality of training future geography teachers determines the effectiveness of the formation of the geographical culture of students in general education institutions. The basis for the formation of geographical culture is geographical local history, which launches the mechanisms of self-development and self-improvement of the student’s personality.
