This article is devoted to the problem of the quality of interlanguage translation of a polymodal text, which has a great relevance and constitutes a relatively new direction in the theory and practice of translation. Н., 2025 does not exhaust the issues of translation of heterogeneous texts and requires a new approach to the classification of translation mistakes in conditions of polymodality. Mistakes in the interlanguage transmission of a polymodal text are investigated in this article on the example of a Russian-language translation of Marvel comics. The empirical base, which consisted of 33 English-language comics and 27 of their Russian-language translations, was investigated using directed sampling technique, analytical, descriptive, comparative and quantitative methods, ranking techniques and graphical interpretation of data. During the comparative analysis of the originals and their translations, 31 mistakes were found and the author’s classification of interlanguage mistakes in correlation with deviation from full equivalence and adequacy was developed, which has a two-tiered structure and allows differentiating 8 types of mistakes: mistakes of the content plan of the original signs (inaccuracies and distortions), mistakes of the expression plan (lexical, grammatical stylistic, punctuation) and discursive mistakes (actually verbal and syncretic). The paper identifies the causes of mistakes in the translation of English-language comics into Russian: typological differences in the languages in contact, imperfect acquaintance with an original language, insufficiently thorough pre-translation analysis, lack of time to translate comics, options for their correction were suggested, as well as outlines means of preventing them and ways of optimization of the translation of comics. During the assessment of the impact of mistakes on perception and communicative effect, the loss to the plot-discursive integrity of the Marvel universe, the destruction of the synergy of visual and verbal components, as well as distrust of the translator and/or publishing house were revealed. Quantitative analysis revealed the frequency of the identified types of mistakes in the translation of comics. The prospects of research in this field of discourse and this branch of translation and translation studies were presented.
