American Forestry—Fad, Subsidy or Business

Abstract The author, a prominent Northwestern lumberman and equipment manufacturer and president of the Washington State Chamber of Commerce, discusses the American forestry situation as he sees it. He considers our present forestry effort a government subsidy and feels that not until forestry is given a chance to become a business will it attain importance. Foresters may not agree with all of Mr. Lamb's statements. The forestry opinions of men of his standing and influence must be given careful consideration by those who, like him, be they foresters, lumbermen or publicists, are keenly interested in the prepetuation of the Nation's great forest industry. It is evident, that he has faith in the possibilities of private forestry.
