Considering that the movements in the tourism market have long since become global, and that this industry has become a strong driver of economic development in many countries and a generator of employment of various profiles of the workforce, tourism, due to its dynamism, has largely begun to disrupt the ecological balance of many destinations. The eff orts of most destinations are related to the remediation of negative connotations produced by the tourism industry, which concern the destruction of the natural environment and cultural and historical heritage. This paper aims to introduce readers to the tools of sustainable development that can help destinations in self-evaluation of the state of sustainability. In addition, the goal is to open a scientific dialogue on aspects of sustainable development. The review of measures will provide insight into possible techniques for remediation of negative effects from tourism, especially those related to the ecological and cultural vulnerability of the destination. The purpose of the work is that the comparative analysis of indicators acts as a stimulus for future researchers.
