Under the Common Law umbrella, Legal English has grown and changed since its first instalment in the 14th century, adopting its institutions and giving them authority by adorning them with formal language. Beginning in the 19th century legal English was freed from the confines of the Common Law system and expanded internationally, embracing the Civil Law system in multilateral agreements. This paper focuses on EU Legal English, presented as an evolving language incorporating and developing its own terminology and specificity, thus, creating a new particular terminological space.
