Supercritical carbon dioxide (S-CO 2 ) Brayton cycle using S-CO 2 as the working fluids has a wide range of applications, which are regarded as one of the prime coolant system candidates replacing the traditional Rankine cycle. During the construction of S-CO 2 cycle system, long-term environmental durability of structural material is one challenge in the extreme S-CO 2 environment characterized by high temperature, high pressure, high velocity, stress loading and even irradiation. High-temperature oxidation, carbon deposition and internal carburization are the main concerns for structural materials in this unique high-temperature C-containing environment, which may result in breakaway oxidation and mechanical property degradation during long-term service. This paper mainly reviews i) the corrosion and degradation of metallic structural materials and non-metallic polymers in S-CO 2 , ii) factors affecting corrosion in S-CO 2 including influence of the alloying elements, temperature, pressure and gas impurities, iii) material service behavior under multi-factors coupling environmental effects, iv) materials corrosion data and materials selection strategies, v) corrosion protection and coolant chemistry for S-CO 2 . Based on above research progress, the research scope for future research was also evaluated in this work.
