Abstract Increment on cutover ponderosa-pine lands in the national forests usually is far below the potential capacity of the site. The reason is deficient growing stock. The method of cutting here described not only leaves a larger growing stock than in former practice but also increases its effectiveness by eliminating low-grade dominants, releasing subordinates, and improving the spacing in groups.
