Abstract Less costly methods for obtaining reliable extensive forest inventory data for purposes of long-range planning are continually sought. This article briefly describes the procedure used by the Tennessee Valley Authority in covering an area of 26,182,000 acres of land, 52 percent of which is forested, at a cost of 1.6 mills an acre.
