Abstract On November 27, 1942, President Schmitz appointed a Committee on War Manpower to study the needs for trained personnel in enabling the forests of the country to make their maximum contribution to the prosecution of the war, and to recommend ways and means of meeting those needs. The first report of the committee consists of two main parts--(1) a list of essential war activities in forestry and associated fields in which the services of men with at least partial professional training are required, and (2) specific recommendations for providing the personnel necessary to handle those activities effectively. The committee is following up its recommendations, which have been approved by the Council of the Society, with the appropriate agencies.
