Abstract The Morris Act of 1902 providing for seed-tree cutting and slash disposal on what is now the Chippewa National Forest constitutes this country's first attempt at legislative silviculture. Professor Chapman gives an historical account of the events leading up to its passage and presents the views of several prominent foresters as to its results.
